बच्चा इन दाँतों की मदद से ही चीजों को चबाना सीखता है। वह बोलना तभी सीख पाता है, जब उसके दूध के दाँत आ जाते हैं। बच्चे के अगर दूध के दाँत टूट जाएँ तो उस के स्वर उच्चारण पर असर होता है। ऐसी हालत में उस स्थान को खाली नहीं छोड़ना चाहिए और दूसरा दाँत तुरंत लगवा लेना चाहिए।
